1966SinceMORE THAN JUST A HOCKEY CLUB
About us
At Barford Tigers, hockey is at the heart of what we do but we’re proud to be much more than a sports team. Our goal is to be a model of excellence both on and off the pitch, building a club that inspires, supports, and unites our community.
Our story is built on teamwork, diversity, and ambition. From nurturing young talent to celebrating senior success, we’re committed to growing the game and giving back to the community that supports us.
Our History
Founded in 1966 by former Barford Boys School pupils, Barford Tigers has grown from a small self-made team into one of Birmingham’s longest-standing community hockey clubs. Today, it continues that legacy with more than 130 players across men’s, women’s and junior teams.
Creating the right environment
We believe that sport is a powerful platform for growth, opportunity, and wellbeing. Some of the ways we foster this environment include:
-
From nutrition advice to promoting active lifestyles, we encourage healthy habits from an early age so that our members thrive both on and off the pitch.
-
We challenge our members to reach their full potential, offering pathways to compete at the highest levels of the game supported by clear development plans and expert coaching.
-
We run regular parents’ evenings and community events with guest speakers on topics ranging from career advice and university pathways to youth safety and crime prevention.
-
Our junior programme nurtures teamwork, confidence, and resilience, supported by mentors who have played at the top level and gone on to successful careers beyond sport.
-
We are proud to be one of the most diverse hockey clubs in the country. Girls, boys, men, and women of all ages and nationalities are welcomed into an inclusive, friendly, and supportive atmosphere.
-
Above all, Barford Tigers is about enjoying the game we love. Hockey with us is fun, energising, and a journey towards becoming the best version of yourself.
