From the opening game, the message to the squad was clear: play with structure, intensity and confidence and we are here to get results. All the players rotated through various positions during the tournament, but the principles remained the same — maintain our shape, move the ball quickly, work hard both in and out of possession and play with positive intent and get on the back posts for the goals !
The most encouraging part of the day was seeing the group of players improve with every game.
As the tournament progressed, our passing became sharper, our movement off the ball improved and we started creating opportunities through some excellent team hockey. We scored several really well-worked team goals, alongside some brilliant individual finishes. The intensity remained high throughout all six games, and every player gave 100% for the team, regardless of what position they were asked to play.
There are still areas to develop, particularly as we continue building our understanding of the structure and decision-making within games, but there were plenty of positives to take forward. Most importantly, it was fantastic to see the players playing with confidence, expressing themselves on the ball and enjoying their hockey.
A huge thank you to Solihull School for hosting and for the teas, to all the parents for their fantastic support throughout the day, and finally to Avraj Bansal for umpiring and helping make the day possible.
